Pathanamthitta
It was carved out of Idukki, Alappuzha and Kollam district in 1982. The main crops are coconut, pepper, tapioca and rubber. Pathanamthitta district is known as the 'Headquarters of Pilgrimage Tourism', of the State. The famous Sabarimala Temple is situated in the district of Pathanamthitta. Pathanamthitta has the least population growth among Indian districts. It is about to achieve zero population growth. It is the first Polio free district in Kerala. Sabarigiri project and Parthasaradhy temple are situated in Pathanamthtta.

KOZHENCHERI: This is located in Pathanamthitta district, Maramon Christian Convention on the river sand bed of Kozhencheri and Maramon of Pamba River under the auspices of the Marthoma Church, in February every year is world famous. RANNI: 14km from Kozhencheri, passing through heavily populated villages of Cherukol, Kattor and Keekozhoor along side of river pampa, conspicuous with a large number of churches, temples and mosque, Ranni, a small foot hill town can be reached.
MUZHIYA: 40km from Pathanamthitta, via Perunad, climbing the hills and passing through Chalakkayam is the Hydro electric power generation centre of Muzhiyar.
SABARIMALA:90km from Kottayam, Sabarimala in the midst of thick forest is one of the most popular Hindu Pilgrimage centre in India, on account of the famous Ayyappa Temple about 914m above sea level.
THIRUVALLA: 22km from Kottayam on the M.C.Road, Thiruvalla is important town in Central Travancore with the Head Quarters of the Marthoma Syrian church and the seat of the Marthoma Metro Politian as also the seat of Roman Catholic Diocese of Thiruvalla. The Mission Hospital and the Pushpagiri Hospital are located here. Perumala church of the Orthodox Church is famous in this place.
KONNI: A hill town, Konni is famous for Timber trade and wild elephant training centre.
