Kottayam
The leading commercial centre of Central Kerala is 96 miles from Trivandrum. It is connected to Trivandrum and Cochin by rail road. It is one of the most industrially developed districts of the State. Here are many old churches, temples, thousands year old mosque and educational institutions. The district is also a large producer of rubber, coconut, tea, coffee and pepper. The town in Kerala known as Akshara-Nagaram is Kottayam. Priyadarsini Hills in Athirambuzha, Kottayam is the seat of M.G University. Rubber Board is a central Govt. Institution located at Kottayam. The first college and printing press in the State were started here.

VAIKOM: 40km from Kottayam and 29km from Cochin, Vaikom is famous for its annual Siva temple festival. Vaikom also famous as Mahatma Gandhi launched his Sathyagraha against untouchables, temple entry and casteism. KUMARAKAM: 12km west of Kottayam, Kumarakam is a tourist resort with 100acres of Coconut estate and Bungalow called Baker Mansion, the former estate and residence of a British Missionary cum planter called Baker. It is now the Taj Resort Ltd, run by the K.T.D.C. This is also an ideal site for enjoying the backwaters and boat cruise. Boats are available on hire around the lake.
PALA: A municipal town of rich plantations 30km from Kottayam, Pala is a centre of rich Syrian Catholics.
MUNDAKAYAM: 50km from Kottayam on the K.K Road, Mundakayam is the foot hill town before starting of the mountain terrain. It is famous for its rubber estates.
KANJIRAPALLY: 40km from Kottayam, on the K.K.Road, Kanjirapally is a small rich town occupied predominantly by rich Catholic Planters and estate owners. The call area cultivated with all type of vegetables and cash crops including tapioca, banana, paddy, coconuts, araconut, cashew, pepper, mango, Jackfruit, coffee and rubber etc.
CHANGANACHERI: About 10km South of Kottayam on the M.C Road. This is an important commercial town for hill produces. This is also the Head Quarters of the N.S.S founded by late Mannath Padmanabhan, a social reformer and leader and his birth place. The S.B.College and the N.S.S. College are located at Changanacherry.
ERUMELI: This is located in Kottayam district. This Hindu Pilgrim centre and ancient Mosque are located here.
VELLOR: It is situated in Kottayam district, The famous News Print Factory is located here.
