This is on the mainland opposite to cochin, this is the first fully literate district in the country and the most industrially developed district of the State, with its headquarter Kochi being recognized as the commercial capital of Kerala. PARAVUR: 37km from Ernakulam, Paravur can be road via Aluvavia or via Njarakkal and by boat via Varappuzha. It is an ancient small town with famous churches and temples.
ANGAMALI: It lies 40km from Kochi on the NH47 and is regarded as the fastest growing town in Kerala. The Little Flower Hospital over here is perhaps the largest eye hospital in South India. This is a famous religious site Kaladi and Malattur etc.
KALADI: This important Hindu pilgrim centre on the banks of Periyar River is 45km from Cochin. The great Advaitha Philosopher and Bhakti saint of 8centuary Adi Sankaracharya was born in this place. The international temple Sri Ramakrishna Adwaitha Ashram is located here.
PERUMBAVOOR: 37km from Ernakulam, Perumbavoor is famous for its timber industries. The Travancore Rayon Factory is located here. Two reputed residential mission High schools, the Perumbavoor Ashram high school and the Keezhillam high school, are located here.
ALUVA: The important pilgrim centre and summer resort is located on the left bank periyar river, 25km north-east of Kochi. The river is ideal for bathing here and is a popular picnic site. The annual Shivarathri fair is celebrated with great fervors.
BOLGATTY: This is an Island about a quarter of a mile north of Ernakulam. The former palace is now converted into a Tourist House for a quiet and enjoyable spot. The lush green landscape with great views of the backwaters makes it an attractive picnic spot. There is a small golf course here.
TRIPUNITHURA: This is located 9km from Kochi, it was the seat of Cochin Rajas. SriPoornathreyesa temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu is a masterpiece of Chola architecture. The town is associated with 'Athachamayam'-a spectacular procession which marks the beginning of Onam festival. The 'sahyadri International Ayurvedic Centre' is renowned world over.
THATTEKAD: This is located 12km from Kothamangalam. There are more than 200 varieties of birds in the region. Key avifauna includes large falcon, gray jungle fowl etc.
MATTANCHERI: This is located in Ernakulam district. The most renowned places of Mattanchery is Jewish Synagogue and Jew Town, The Koonan Kurishu Chapel and Dutch Palace.
MUVATTUPUZHA: 43km from Ernakulam reroute Munnar, Muvattupuzha, on the banks of Muvattupuzha River, is a small commercial town and the Head Quarters of Muvattupuzha Taluk.

KOTHAMANGALAM: Driving down from Pallivasal in Munnar, via Neriyamangalam through difficult terrains and winding roads, it is a great relief to reach Kothamangalam, a commercial town for hill produces 109km from Ernakulam.
